Michigan up to 65 confirmed coronavirus cases
On Monday, there were 53 confirmed cases. None of the 12 new cases are in Ottawa or Allegan County.
The patient at Holland Hospital — the only one in Ottawa County to test positive for the coronavirus to date — has been discharged, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Ottawa County Public Health Department Health Officer Lisa Stefanovsky said that the patient was a middle-aged female with no history of travel. Stefanovsky said that this indicates that the person may have been exposed by someone who has not been diagnosed with Holland COVID-19.
“We believe that there is a virus in the community,” Stefanovsky said. “And an unknown number of people may be infected with or without symptoms.”
OCDPH Senior Epidemiologist Derel Glashower said that the county does not plan on releasing a list of public places that the patient with the confirmed case has been. Glashow said that COVID-19 does not have the same contagiousness as other diseases where detailing past locations is necessary.
OCDPH Public Information Officer Kristina Wieghmink said that any resident who feels as if they are showing symptoms should call their health care provider for screening before they seek care in order to reduce the number of people who may not have COVID-19 showing up to health care facilities.
Holland Hospital has established a COVID-19 hotline at 616-394-2080 for anyone who wishes to speak with a nurse regarding symptoms and risk and to see if testing is needed. Holland Political News
“We are happy to report that the patient was discharged (Monday) and will now be followed by the Ottawa County Department of Public Health,” Jennifer Schmitt, Holland Hospital media and the public relations coordinator said in an email. “We were prepared to care for Ottawa County’s first positive patient and all appropriate protocols were followed including protocols for staff caring for the patient.”
The hospital asks that the community remain calm amid the patient’s release and advised that it continues to work with the county, state, and CDC to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital has also established a hotline at 616-391-2380.
Elsewhere in the county, North Ottawa Community Health System opened a drive-up COVID-19 testing center in Grand Haven on Tuesday. Its hotline can be reached at 616-935-7810. Holland Distribution Sites

Stefanovsky said that the patient is estimated to have been in close contact — within a six-foot radius — of 50 people. The OCDPH has made contact with those 50 people and has instructed them to self-isolate and monitor for symptoms.
